Dr. Newhook’s teaching responsibilities include under-graduate and graduates courses in structural design, reinforced concrete and structural analysis. His research interests are in the areas of structural analysis and design, concrete structures, bridge engineering, structural health monitoring, and innovative materials such as the use of fibre reinforced polymers in civil engineering applications. In the area of structural monitoring, he has considerable experience in the use of fibre optic sensing technology. He has over 10 years of experience in structural engineering research and consulting and has been involved in award winning design projects such as the Salmon River Steel-free Deck Project and the Hall’s Harbour Innovative Wharf. Dr. Newhook is a member several technical committees of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and the American Concrete Institute as well as a member of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering. Dr. Newhook is currently a project leader in the Intelligent Sensing For Innovative Structures (ISIS Canada) Network of Centres of Excellence Program.
